The following design was part of an international competition inviting participants to reinterpret the city of LA through the design of a hand woven tapestry.
Understanding topographies
My submission that won first place and is now being hand woven in Pakistan and sold online was generated by 3d modeling the topography where the city meets the mountain and then generating an abstracted topographic map along those surfaces.
3D to 2D
Playing on the notion of tapestry pile, I attempted to translate the intersection of the undulating Hollywood Hills with the flattened grid of the urban landscape by interpreting the topographic lines of the city as raised tapestry pile.
Production to product
The end product weaving system went through various stages of post production to achieve final product approvals and is now up for sale
